So for all those people who carry Russell and Whitehead around at the supermarket it's certainly critical.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-264226589944705290.post-8444425777790528572008-04-13T08:13:00.000-07:002008-04-13T08:13:00.000-07:00Useful? I like talking about closure. The kiddies usually have not heard about closure. And we talk about "proof by counterexample". I present them with evidence that the natural numbers are not closed for subtraction.

And then I ask them to 'prove' something: "Show evidence that the set {0,1} is not closed under addition"

I should thank Bertrand Rusell every time I get to that spot...

JonathanAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-264226589944705290.post-71349861276020610232008-04-12T15:58:00.000-07:002008-04-12T15:58:00.000-07:00Well, not really, I'd think. It is in elementary mathematics, but not much in general abstract math - at least not without much more algebra.Vekyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12207072339468136950noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-264226589944705290.post-43137658195423457172008-04-11T20:08:00.000-07:002008-04-11T20:08:00.000-07:00Reminds me of this: I has a mathematical system!Reminds me of this: I has a mathematical system!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
